Milestones to Launch

Suzaku was launched on July 10, 2005 from the Uchinoura Space Center of the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), Japan, on an M-V (M-five) with a re-designed first stage.

2000 February 17 Joule SMEX proposal submitted to NASA to recover the science
2000 September Joule selected for Phase A study
2000 October Started seeking approval for participation in Astro-E2, rather than to proceed with the stand-alone Joule mission
2000 December Astro-E2 recovery mission approved in Japan
2001 April Official start of the Astro-E2 project in Japan
2001 July 19 NASA participation in Astro-E2 approved!

2001 December 11-12 1st Astro-E2 Science Working Group Meeting
2003 March 1st XRT shipped to Japan
2003 July Start of 1st Integration Test at ISAS
2004 March XRS He insert shipped to Japan
2004 April Last XRT shipped to Japan
2004 April-August He insert integrated with rest of XRS and tested
2004 September XRS integrated with the spacecraft
2004 November Launch delay announced (read the article about the delay)
2005 May Spacecraft shipped to Uchinoura
2005 June-July Launch preparations at Uchinoura
2005 July 10 Successful Launch! Mission renamed Suzaku
