Suzaku Discoveries
Astronomers all over the world are eagerly waiting for new
discoveries and insights gained by using the Suzaku
data. We will share some of the excitement in this section.
2008 July
The vast majority of stars will end up as white dwarfs. A tiny fraction
of these white dwarfs will "die" a second time, exploding as
a Type Ia supernova. A team of scientists, led by Dr. Carles Badenes of
Princeton, has figured out a way to study the elemental composition of
the original star by observing the debris from the supernova explosion.
2007 October
There probably have been several hundred million "Type II"
supernova explosions in our Milky Way Galaxy since its birth - that's
the estimate of a team of Japanese scientists, led by Dr. Kosuke Sato
of Tokyo University of Science.
2006 October
An international team of scientists have measured the rate
of a black hole's spin, and found evidence for how a black
hole bends light.
